What is a video contact sheet for?
A contact sheet, also called a video thumbnail sheet or frame collage, shows what is in a video at a glance, without playing it.
- Reviewing a film or video archive without watching it
- Sharing a visual summary on social media or in an article
- Showing footage, edits and color to your team in one image
- Creating previews for video sales and streaming pages
Why your video stays on your device
Vidsheet opens the video with your browser's own player and captures frames on your device. There is no server upload limit, and you never wait for a file to upload. That makes it a good fit for private videos too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a contact sheet from a video?
Choose your video. Vidsheet takes frames at even intervals and lays them out in the number of columns and rows you set. You can also pick frames by hand, then download the sheet as a JPG.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Frames are captured in your browser and the image is built on your device. Your video file is never sent to a server.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free and needs no account. Each sheet carries a small vidsheet.com credit in the bottom corner. Vidsheet Pro removes it for $9.99 a year or $29.99 once.
What do you store if I buy Pro?
Only your email address and your plan, so Pro works when you sign in. PayPal handles the payment. Your videos and frames never reach us.
Which video formats work?
Any video your browser can play. MP4 (H.264) and WebM are the most reliable. MOV, HEVC and MKV depend on your browser and device; if a file will not open, the page tells you.
How many frames can a contact sheet have?
In Auto mode you can use up to 12 columns and 12 rows, which is 144 frames. In Manual mode you decide how many frames to add, and the page warns you when the image reaches its size limit.
Can I change the image width?
Yes. Choose 1280, 1920 or 2560 pixels, or enter your own value between 320 and 4096 pixels.
Can I add the title and video details?
Yes. The title, file size, resolution and duration can appear above or below the frames, or you can turn them off. You can also add your own footer text and choose the font and text size.
Can I replace a single frame?
Yes. Click a frame in the sheet and replace it with another moment from the video or an image from your computer. You can also zoom, rotate, move or delete it.
